How a Hosted VoIP Call Works

Internal call example with powered over Ethernet (POE) phones:

  • Saves the customer the cost of running separate voice and data Ethernet cable runs to each user
  • Phones and PC's are connected on single Ethernet cable runs back to an NHC or customer supplied POE Switch
  • The POE switch connects to a NHC Voice Router. The Voice Router sends the call to the NewVoice switch.
The switch recognizes the call is occurring between the NewVoice phones within the location and passes the
SIP connection down to the NewVoice router and internal LAN.

    External Call Example:

  • The Voice Router routes the call over the internet to the NewVoice switch located in a secure data center
  • The NewVoice switch searches it's data base to determine if the call is to be routed to another NewVoice on-net customer location or to the PSTN
  • The call is routed to the PSTN and rings a standard or wireless phone
